Playing Electric Guitar
It is the stuff of dreams. Generations of people have stood in front of the mirror pretending they are playing electric guitar as part of a famous band, in front of thousands at the stadium of their choice. You can hear the crowds roar as you take your place, the stadium falls silent waiting for you to begin, but suddenly reality breaks through and you are back alone in your room feeling like it will never happen.
However, why not have a shot at your dreams? Why not learn to play the electric guitar really, then you can at least stand in front of that mirror with your guitar slung around your neck and feel like you are so close to hearing the crowd roar your name as you take your applause and come back for more.

Many people are put off learning to play the guitar and many other musical instruments as they are worried that they are going to look silly and not be able to get the hang of it, so learning in your own home could be the answer to your prayers.
There is a massive amount of material out there for someone considering playing electric guitar. Obviously you need to get an electric guitar, and an amp, and for the sake of your neighbors and family a set of headphones, so you can hear yourself but they don’t have to listen while you learn – even more wow factor!
Then, months of practice and learning in your room that they won’t even hear, and when you finally whip off the headphones and play they will be more than impressed that you can suddenly play so well!
The principles of playing electric guitar are the same as playing an acoustic guitar. They both have the same six strings; however, the difference tends to be the shape of the body and the fact that the electric guitar is specifically designed to be used with an amp, and without it really has little sound. The electric guitar is more often than not played with a body strap so you can stand up and rock that stadium.
You want to get comfortable with this feel, trusting the strap to hold the guitar so you are left with your hands free to use it. Again, you would be well advised to have your guitar and hold it with your hands in the correct places until it feels more natural and less awkward, as this will make learning the fingering easier if you are not distracted by the clumsy feeling that comes with first holding a new object.
When looking for guitar lessons on line you will find that you can select music more appropriate to the electric guitar, your favorite Hendrix track for example, and by all means use these when learning to play, as it is important that you find the music interesting, otherwise you can risk losing your enthusiasm and that is not good.
By all means start to learn how to play the electric guitar with music you actually enjoy trying to play. We have said it before, but one of the biggest keys to learning to play any musical instrument, including the electric guitar, is practice. This should be very regular so that you are constantly reminding your brain and getting the new information programmed into your memory.
